Objective: Strengthening regional transition

The Just Transition Fund (South, West, and North regions) is intended to support the transition to a more sustainable, future-proof economy in the regions concerned.

This is done by supporting projects that contribute to the transition to a greener, digital and resilient economy.

For: ‘ stimulation projects’ and ‘implementation projects’

Projects eligible for the Just Transition Fund are those that contribute to the sustainable transition of the regions of Emmen, Groningen, IJmond, Groot-Rijnmond, West-Brabant, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and South-Limburg.

In each region, a package has been put together in collaboration with the province and municipalities to tailor the JTF to the specific region.

The focus here is on innovation, sustainability, and changing and strengthening the regional economy and changing and strengthening the workforce.

Innovation encompasses research and development of sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels, digitalization, and the promotion of the circular economy. While the Southern region is focusing on biobased chemistry, hydrogen, for example, plays a significant role in Groningen.

To strengthen the regional economy, the focus is on establishing (sustainable) start-ups and scale-ups, and realizing the first commercial applications of innovative technology.

Strengthening the workforce involves creating opportunities for (re)training employees and job seekers, retaining talent in the region, and developing and adding training programs and training institutes to facilitate the sustainable transition.

Applications to sub-region

Applications for the Just Transition Fund can be submitted to SNN (Northern region), Stimulus (Southern region), and Kansen voor West (Western region).

The subregions are divided as follows: North includes the province of Groningen and the municipality of Emmen; South includes the regions of West North Brabant, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, and South Limburg; and West includes the regions of IJmond and Groot-Rijnmond.
