Objective: Develop scalable, CO2-neutral heating solutions that support the emergence of Positive Energy Districts

A comprehensive project combining scientific research, applied research, and ensuring society embraces these solutions

The transition to CO2-neutral heating is a major challenge for many local areas. The EmPowerED project, led by TU/e EIRES, offers a solution by developing sustainable heating solutions with citizens, companies, and governments. Researchers are creating a toolbox to help design local heat systems.

What makes EmPowerED unique is the mix of disciplines, technological innovation, and the direct involvement of residents in hands-on testing. Solutions are tested in real-life contexts to prove their effectiveness. The project brings together knowledge institutions, social partners, and local stakeholders to share expertise for a broadly applicable approach.

Enablemi’s role

Enablemi played a vital role in the project’s development with its expertise. Innovative parties were connected and a strong consortium was built, focusing on partner collaboration and defining the project’s scope. Enablemi’s knowledge ensured a coherent plan, scientific relevance, and social impact. Everything was translated into a comprehensive project plan and detailed budget that provide a solid foundation for the project’s implementation.

Taking action at the right moment

Some projects take time to mature into success. EmPowerED is one of these. The initiative arose from a previous proposal several years ago. Enablemi was asked to assess how this idea could be developed into a successful and influential project. The ember was kept alive and action was taken at the right time.

What makes this project so influential is the collaboration among many project partners: 11 knowledge institutions and 38 other organizations including companies, municipalities, social organizations, and knowledge or network organizations.

Floor Alkemade - Enablemi

I was truly so happy with your support; I could never have managed to get all the partners together myself.

Floor Alkemade, Professor and Chair of Economics and Governance of Technological Innovation at TU/e.

The EmPowerED project contributes to these Sustainable Development Goals

Win-win impact for EmPowerED

This project provides a space where all partners can contribute and further develop their expertise. What makes EmPowerED unique is the combination of multiple areas of expertise, technological innovation, and the direct involvement of residents in practical testing. Solutions are tested in real-life situations to demonstrate their effectiveness. The project brings together knowledge institutions, social partners, and local stakeholders to share knowledge and experience for a widely applicable approach. Each party has its own interest, and this project weaves those together into a unified whole.
