Why we are a member of SDG Netherlands
Enablemi has been a member of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Netherlands for some time because the Sustainable Development Goals clearly express what we work towards every day: creating a healthy and sustainable planet together.
We identify with the ambition to build a fair and future-oriented society. The SDGs provide guidance and inspiration in the work we do and in how we, both as individuals and as an organisation, want to contribute to positive change.
But what does that actually mean?
At Enablemi, the SDGs are not abstract concepts. We make them tangible through projects in which we help organisations drive transitions.
For example, we work with partners in healthcare on innovations that make healthcare more accessible. Within the energy transition, we support municipalities with participation and planning. And we help employers invest in the development of their people. Our projects are focused on creating tangible impact.
Let’s take a closer look at three themes and projects to give you a better idea of the work we do.
Energy transition
We are involved in numerous projects that contribute positively to accelerating the energy transition. One of these projects focuses on the smart, collective control of hybrid heat pumps to reduce grid congestion and make more efficient use of renewable energy.
Enablemi was involved from the very beginning, developing the project plan, building the consortium and preparing the grant application, and currently acts as project manager.
We coordinate the collaboration between residents, grid operators and technology partners in a pilot involving 100 households. We also manage compliance requirements towards the funding authority. The project contributes to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
Healthcare and technology
A deep-tech scale-up is developing quantum dot sensors for medical imaging and infrared applications and scaling up the technology towards market application. Enablemi supported the application for an Innovation Credit through RVO, including the business case and process management.
The innovation strengthens both medical diagnostics and high-tech sensor technology, creating a positive impact on healthcare as well as the high-tech industry.
This innovation contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
Education
A project in Northeast Friesland focuses on healthy nutrition, vitality and entrepreneurship among primary school children, contributing to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
On behalf of a regional educational organisation, Enablemi supported the feasibility study, brought partners together and helped prepare and submit the ultimately successful grant application for the main project.
Children learn about healthy eating, where food comes from and how to work together to create a healthy school environment. In this way, we contribute to long-term health and equal opportunities for children in the region.
Personally driven by the SDGs
Many of our colleagues also feel personally connected to the SDGs, each from their own perspective. Some are particularly drawn to themes such as health or education, while others are more focused on energy or agriculture.
As our colleague Bouke explains:
“I want to work on projects that not only solve problems today, but also make a difference in the long term and help keep our planet beautiful and liveable.
I consciously try to contribute to this in my personal life, and I think it is great that I can also play a part through my work. For example, I have worked on projects with grid operators to develop solutions for grid congestion, helping us respond more effectively to developments in renewable energy.”
Our colleague Rowan is driven by similar values:
“I really enjoy working on projects where public funding can be used as a means to accelerate a transition, such as the circular transition.
Each of these projects makes the world a little better in its own way. The values behind these projects are closely aligned with the values behind the SDGs. I believe it is important that we treat our planet and its people responsibly and fairly. The projects that give me the most energy are those that give the system a push: technologies or collaborations that demonstrate that things can be done differently.”
A conscious choice
Being a member of SDG Netherlands is therefore a conscious choice for us. It is a way of showing what Enablemi stands for: contributing to a society that is future-oriented, inclusive and resilient.
